About Our Practice in Saskatoon

Dr. Courtney Kennedy is a proud Métis entrepreneur and works part-time at Kennedy Eye Clinic & part-time at her other clinic in Saskatoon, The Eye Studio by Kennedy Eye Clinic. Dr. Kennedy was born and raised in Saskatoon and graduated high school in 2005 with a bilingual (French & English) diploma. She then attended the University of Calgary, where she completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree (with honours) in Biomedical Sciences in 2009 and finished her Optometry degree (with honours) at the University of Waterloo in 2014. While she was a student, Dr. Kennedy interned in many places, including a Veterans Hospital in New York City, where she focused on ocular disease and therapeutics.

Between 2015 and 2018, Dr. Kennedy opened 2 non-dispensing optometry practices in Saskatoon and in 2020, she decided to amalgamate her practices into 1 full-scope private practice known as Kennedy Eye Clinic!

In 2021, she was fortunate enough to open her second location, The Eye Studio by Kennedy Eye Clinic. At Kennedy Eye Clinic, she’s very excited to be offering a dry eye clinic with a wide array of technology, including IPL, RF, and LipiFlow treatments, as well as a medical aesthetics division in her clinic.

There are a few accomplishments that Dr. Kennedy is very proud of:

• 2023 – Present: Dr. Kennedy was asked to be 1 of 100 women across Canada to participate in the Women for Wishes campaign for Make-A-Wish Canada! The collective goal is to raise over 1 million dollars.
• 2023 – Present: Dr. Kennedy brought the ICEE (Indigenous Children’s Eye Exams) program to SK and led a team up north to Île-à-la-Crosse to provide free eye exams and free eyewear.
• 2023 – Present: Dr. Kennedy, through the ICEE (Indigenous Children’s Eye Exams) program, led a team up north to Île-à-la-Crosse in 2023 and La Ronge in 2024 to provide eye care to children
• 2022 – Present: Kennedy Eye Clinic is partnering with Dress for Success (Saskatoon chapter) and providing one deserving woman with a free pair of glasses each month!
• 2022: Dr. Kennedy won the Swinging with the Stars charity fundraiser in Saskatoon and raised over $44K to go to the City Hospital Eye Foundation! This money directly benefited her patients because it went towards funding new equipment for the Eye Centre.
• 2022: Dr. Kennedy was a finalist for the Women Entrepreneurs of SK’s Indigenous Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
• 2022: Kennedy Eye Clinic was a finalist for the NSBA’s Business Builder Awards for the Pursuit of Excellence Award.
• 2021: Dr. Kennedy was featured by the Government of SK in their Women’s Entrepreneur’s Week and recognized for all of her accomplishments.
• 2020: Dr. Kennedy won iMed Pharma’s Top Dry Eye Provider Award in Canada.
• 2018: Dr. Kennedy was also chosen as one of Johnson & Johnson’s Top 40 Under 40 Optometrists in Canada!

Dr. Kennedy is a big advocate for supporting local and gives back to the community any chance she gets. Since 2010, Dr. Kennedy has volunteered with local humane societies and is currently volunteering with the Saskatoon SPCA and SCAT Street Cat Rescue. She is a HUGE animal lover and has 2 dogs and 2 cats of her own! Dr. Kennedy has also been fortunate enough to go on several mission trips to Peru, Thailand, and the Philippines and plans to go on many more in the future. In her spare time, Dr. Kennedy enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the lake and mountains, and also loves to travel every chance she gets.

Dr. Kennedy is passionate about doing eye exams on people of all ages and helping people manage their dry eye disease—Dr. Kennedy has had very dry eyes herself since she had laser eye surgery in 2012, which is why she opened the dry eye clinic. She’s currently welcoming new patients to her clinic and looks forward to meeting you! 

Dr. Anna Matiko has been working full-time at Kennedy Eye Clinic since 2019 and has been a major asset to the team! She has been practicing optometry for over 10 years. Dr. Matiko was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. When she was younger, her dad always said she was going to be an optometrist and live in Aruba—1 out of 2 isn’t bad!

She attended the University of Saskatchewan, where she completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology in 2008 and finished her optometry degree (with great distinction) at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2012. While in Chicago, she got to experience living in a city with over double the population of the entire province of Saskatchewan!

She enjoyed going to baseball games, eating Chicago-style hot dogs (hold the ketchup), and living within walking distance of the Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago. As part of her education, Dr. Matiko interned in many unique locations, including Bangor, Maine; Mountain Home, Tennessee; Chicago, Illinois; and Melbourne, Australia. She was able to increase her knowledge in primary eye care, ocular disease, contact lenses, and pediatric eye care. Dr. Matiko is committed to being a lifelong learner and is always trying to expand her knowledge base.

In 2021, Dr. Matiko became a first-time mom to her son, Jasper! Dr. Matiko and her husband, Sheldon, could not be happier with their happy and energetic little boy. In her spare time, Dr. Matiko can be found playing with her son, tending to her garden, trying a new recipe, or fishing with her husband.

For the first part of Dr. Matiko’s career, she worked within non-dispensing optometry clinics in both Saskatoon and Regina. She is now excited to be part of the team at Kennedy Eye Clinic because it allows her to offer a tailored patient experience from start to finish. As a new mom, Dr. Matiko connects well with other parents and enjoys working with families and patients of all ages.

Dr. Darroch was born and raised in Saskatoon, SK, and graduated high school in 2012 with a bilingual diploma. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Anatomy and Cell Biology and his Bachelor of Science Honours in Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Saskatchewan. In 2021, he received his Doctor of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA.

As part of his training, he completed externships in Boston, Manchester, NH, and Philadelphia, PA, offering full-scope optometry to a diverse population.

Dr. Darroch practised for 2 years in Victoria, BC, before returning to Saskatchewan in 2023. He is happy to see patients for general eye care, contact lenses, and management of ocular disease. In his free time, Dr. Darroch enjoys playing basketball and cheering on his favourite teams, the Toronto Raptors and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He looks forward to travelling more, experiencing new places, and having new adventures.

Kendra was born and raised in Saskatoon. She has always had a love and curiosity for the eye care industry and was ecstatic to start her new chapter at Kennedy Eye Clinic in 2019. She loves being able to learn new things every day and feels fortunate to work beside such amazing doctors. She loves getting to know patients of all ages, especially children, as she has a daughter, Stevie, at home who keeps her and her husband very busy. In her spare time, Kendra loves being able to spend quality time with her family. She also has a love for drawing, painting, cooking, and animals. (Fun fact, Dr. Kennedy and Kendra both have cats named Gus!) She is excited to be able to meet all new patients and is so happy to be a part of Kennedy Eye Clinic’s team!

Tanis was born and raised in Saskatoon. She has been working as an optometric assistant since 2014, completing her certification as a Canadian Optometric Assistant in 2015. She loves to travel as well as spend weekend getaways in the mountains with her partner, often with their dog, Roni, in tow. Tanis has been passionate about the eye care industry since day 1 and is thrilled to share her enthusiasm with each and every patient who comes through the door!

Fun Fact: Tanis is our in-house dry eye champion, and if you need in-house dry eye treatments, she will be the one doing them for you.

Last but not least, she is our certified medical aesthetician right here at the practice. Offering Morpheus8, Lumecca IPL and Forma RF treatments. In need of medical grade skin care? We carry the amazing Vivier skincare line while offering facials and dermaplaning.

Chaelsey was born in Saskatoon and raised in Quill Lake, SK. She has been in the optical industry since 2010, completing the Optical Sciences Program in 2012. She loves a good challenge when it comes to adjusting or fixing frames! In her spare time, she enjoys gardening and spending time with her family. She never lost her love for the country and lives on an acreage with her husband, 2 children, their dog, & 2 cats. Chaelsey loves being a part of Kennedy Eye Clinic’s team and looks forward to meeting you & helping you see better with your new glasses!

Katie was born and raised in Saskatoon and got her start in the optometric field in 2009. She quickly fell in love with the fast-paced environment and ability to help people in a functional and fashionable manner. With a range of training from pre-testing to frame and lens selection, Katie is always ready to take on a challenge and help you find the perfect eyewear!

Morgan grew up in Unity, SK and joined Kennedy Eye Clinic’s team in January 2023. She is very grateful to be working with a great group of women! She loves learning about the optometry field and loves the fast-paced work environment. In her free time, she plays in a women’s softball league, and she is also a home-based lash artist, which keeps her busy!

Taylor was born and raised in Saskatoon. She’s the newest member to join the Kennedy Eye Clinic family in 2024! She’s very excited to see where the optical industry takes her.

She has a passion for arts and even has a diploma in 3D Animation. She’s always been a fan of Disney, and if you buy her anything Beauty and the Beast related you would’ve won her over immediately!

When she’s not working, she’s either painting, building puzzles, reading on her kindle, watching Harry Potter on a loop, attempting to pet any dog that crosses her path or hanging out with her friends trying to make them laugh always.

Fun fact, Taylor is Dr. Kennedy’s younger sister!

Patricia was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to Canada with her family at the age of 16. She is currently in undergraduate studies at the University of Saskatchewan in hopes of becoming an optometrist. In her spare time, she enjoys painting and drawing, as well as playing tennis with her partner. Patricia is excited to learn as much as she can about the industry in pursuit of becoming a successful optometrist in the future. But for now, she is very excited to assist you during your visit!

Brenda Shewchuk joined the Kennedy Eye Clinic team in 2023. She has been in the optical industry for 28+ years and received her optician certificate in 2002.

Brenda really enjoys helping people with their optical needs. She focuses on creating a great experience in the clinic and meeting your vision needs.

Brenda is also a certified yoga instructor. She received her 200-hour yoga teacher certification in 2017. Her belief is that yoga is accessible to everyone. She does her best to spread that message. Brenda always looks forward to meeting new people and can’t wait to help you find the perfect pair of glasses at Kennedy Eye Clinic.

She has been married for over 33 years and is a mother of 2 adult children, of whom she is extremely proud.

Meet Kenzie, one of our newest frame stylists at Kennedy Eye Clinic! She’s passionate about helping patients find eyewear that not only enhances their vision but also reflects their personal style. Although she’s new to the eye care industry, she brings over 10 years of experience in retail management and customer service, where she’s developed strong skills in making people feel their absolute best. Whether you’re looking for something trendy, classic, or uniquely you, Kenzie and her bubbly personality is ready to guide you through the process and ensure you leave feeling confident with your choice!

When not at work helping patients pick out the perfect specs, you can find Kenzie shopping around town with an iced coffee in hand, no matter the season. She loves the color pink, hot holidays, enjoys socializing with friends and family as well as spending quality time with her husband Chad and their bunny Henry.

Kim was born and raised in Belleville Ontario. Her first job was in optical in 1991 where she grew to love the industry, and turned it into a career.
In 2007, she moved to Saskatoon where she started a new chapter in life making it her new home. She obtained her CCOA designation in 2016 and brings a wealth of experience to the Kennedy Eye Clinic team. During her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her wife Colie, her children (Sydney, Owen, and Maya) and grandson Jensen.

Falyn is an enthusiastic licensed optician with 20 years of experience in the optical field.

Known for having a passion for glasses, she has dedicated her career to creating a fun and safe experience for all your eye care needs. Falyn believes in the power of transparency and kindness, striving to make choosing the right pair of glasses or other visual aids a positive and exciting experience.

Outside of work, she enjoys anything that includes her young daughter and staying active. Falyn is excited to join the Kennedy Eye Clinic team and looks forward to helping you find your perfect pair of glasses!
